Welcome Message from the Symposium Chair

We are pleased to announce that the 19th International Symposium on Transport Phenomena and Dynamics of Rotating Machinery (ISROMAC19) will be held in Tokyo, Japan, from 5 to 7 July 2026.

Following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, ISROMAC18 was conducted as an online symposium in November 2020. After the pandemic subsided, preparations were made to resume the symposium in September 2023 in Chania, Greece, as an alternative to its traditional venue in Hawaii. Unfortunately, despite significant efforts by many colleagues, the event could not be realised. As a result, the ISROMAC series has experienced an extended interruption.

Throughout this period, the PCTFE (Pacific Center of Thermal-Fluid Engineering) committee continued discussions on how best to resume ISROMAC in a reliable and timely manner. Although a return to the historic venue of Hawaii was carefully considered, practical constraints including cost, accessibility, and scheduling led to the conclusion that it was not feasible at this time. Consequently, it was decided to hold ISROMAC19 in Tokyo, where a successful and well-organised symposium can be assured. We sincerely regret any disappointment this decision may cause and note that preparations are already underway to return ISROMAC20 to Hawaii in the future.

Tokyo offers excellent international accessibility and is supported by an experienced organising team with a strong record in hosting international ssymposiumonferences. We are fully committed to delivering a high-quality symposium that will be rewarding for all participants.

ISROMAC19 will cover a broad range of topics related to transport phenomena and the dynamics of rotating machinery, including compressors, turbines, pumps and other fluid machinery, multiphase flows, cavitation, rotor dynamics, heat transfer, combustion, aeroacoustics, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and experimental techniques. The symposium will feature several distinguished keynote lectures. Most accepted papers and abstracts will be included in the symposium proceedings, with most papers published in the IOP Conference Series.

Since its inaugural meeting in 1985, ISROMAC has been a long-standing international symposium traditionally held in Hawaii. A list of past organising chairs is available on the designated webpage.

We cordially invite both long-standing members of the ISROMAC community and first-time participants to submit their papers and join ISROMAC19. We also sincerely appreciate the continued support of committee members and encourage session organisers to assemble strong technical programmes that will promote productive and engaging discussions.

We look forward to welcoming you to Tokyo in July 2026 and trust that ISROMAC19 will provide valuable technical insights and rewarding opportunities for professional exchange and collaboration.

Sincerely,

Kazuyoshi Miyagawa (Waseda University)
